Sudeley Castle is set to launch a brand-new event for 2026 with its History Weekend – a three-day celebration of storytelling, heritage and discovery in the heart of the Cotswolds.
Running from 26–28 June 2026, the weekend brings together renowned historians, including Alison Weir and David Starkey, storytellers, living history specialists and Sudeley’s expert guides to explore more than 1,000 years of the castle’s extraordinary past. Set within the historic grounds and gardens, it offers an engaging way to experience one of the Cotswolds’ most iconic landmarks.
A Journey Through 1,000 Years of History
Few places in the Cotswolds can match the depth of history found at Sudeley Castle.
Once home to kings and queens, including Henry VIII and Katherine Parr, the castle has witnessed moments that shaped both national and local history. The History Weekend explores these stories in more detail, from its Tudor connections to its role during the Civil War and later restoration periods.
Talks, Tours and Hands-On History
Across the weekend, visitors can enjoy a full program of activities designed to bring the past to life.

Living History in the Castle Grounds
One of the most engaging parts of the weekend is the chance to meet the people who help interpret Sudeley’s past.
Costumed musicians Waytes and Measures and storyteller Dave Tong will be on site during the event, sharing stories and demonstrating what life may have sounded like in different eras of the castle’s history. Local heritage experts from Winchcombe Museum will also contribute to the experience.
A Castle at the Heart of the Cotswolds
Set against the rolling Cotswold Hills, Sudeley Castle is known for its romantic ruins, award-winning gardens and strong royal connections.
It is also the final resting place of Queen Katherine Parr, the only English queen buried on private land, adding a unique historical significance to the site.
